If you are training your dog you need to be sure that you are fully aware of what dog training entails. It is important not to let small issues stop you when it comes to your training. There may be some small issues that may not seem significant to you, but they can, in fact, affect your dog’s progress when it comes to the training. We will take a look at some of the most common dog training mistakes that are made when dogs are being trained so this way you will know what to watch out for.

  • 1. Leaving it Too Late Before You StartYou should start dog training as soon as you get your dog, regardless of the age of your dog. If you wait until your dog gets older, it’s more likely that your dog will have developed bad habits. These habits can be resolved, but it takes a little more work. Remember that dog training is different from behavior management as the aim of dog training is to shape the way that your dog behaves and teach your dog how to react to certain phrases. If your dog is very young then he may not be ready for everything and you may need to concentrate on basic commands or house training, to begin with. As you grow closer to your dog, he will become used to the routine when it comes to training and at this point, you can try to be more adventurous.
  • 2. Training StyleThere is no such thing as one size fits every dog as there are lots of different ways to train a dog and you may need to seek advice using different sources. This could help you to create your own training program which is suitable for your dog.
  • 3.ConsistencyYou need to be consistent when it comes to dog training otherwise you will confuse your dog. You also need to make sure that you do not reward your dog when he has almost achieved something. You should only reward your dog when he’s actually achieved the goal.
  • 4. Not Enough TrainingIt is important to remember that dog training is not done just once and then it’s finished with. You need to make sure that you carry out regular training, even if your dog has mastered something. Always work on one thing at a time and make sure that your dog training sessions are short. Also, you need to conduct your dog training sessions two or three times a week.
  • 5. ImpatienceDogs learn at different paces and therefore dog training takes time. Try not to get frustrated or stressed as it’s likely that your dog will also end up feeling the same way. If your dog is struggling with something, then consider breaking it down into smaller parts and also making sure that your dog training sessions are not too long.

“These trainers are amazing! We did the 2 weeks board and train and can’t believe the progress our dog made while there! He was a repeat visitor to the city pound before we rescued him. Very loving, but too clever for his own good and needed some help finding his motivations and direction. We waffled about the price quite a bit before signing him up but decided if you’d pay this $$ for a physical ailment to heel/help your dog then you should be willing to pay it for their mental health and wellness as well. It was definitely worth it! He’s a completely different dog and we (dog and humans) are all so much happier for it! I’d recommend this place to anyone looking to help their dog be a happier, more manageable part of their family.”
